The International Day Against Homophobia, held on May 17 every year, is a rallying event offering an opportunity for people to get together and reach out to one another. Fondation Émergence promotes, mainly on a pan-Canadian level, the International Day Against Homophobia and encourages organisations and individuals to highlight this event in their environment. A survey shows that myths about same-sex parenting persist among Canadians and Quebecers

Montreal, May 15, 2014 — As the International Day Against Homophobia draws near, Fondation Émergence has revealed the results of a survey conducted by Léger Marketing concerning Canadians’ opinions and perception of same-sex parenting. The subject of the survey relates to the theme of the 2014 campaign, “I love my two dads, I love my two moms”.

The survey indicates that in everyday life and on the Internet, more than half of the Canadians surveyed (52%) claim that they have witnessed offensive comments being made about families with same-sex parents or same-sex parenting in general. 16% declared that they personally uttered such offensive comments.

Fondation Émergence launches a campaign to demystify same-sex parenting

2014 International Day Against Homophobia campaign



Montreal, February 21, 2014 - Today Fondation Émergence is unveiling the visual component of its 2014 campaign to fight homophobia. Through this campaign, the organization will demystify same-sex parenting in order to reduce prejudice towards children growing up in families with same-sex parents. The official launch of the campaign will take place at 5 p.m. tonight at Pride House (Maison de la Fierté), located at 1641 Amherst Street in Montreal.
